For this task, I created an animated social media piece as an advertisement for my vinyl shop. My aim for this task was to produce an advert that is consistent with the brand’s nostalgic identity, but also one that immediately captures the attention of the current fan base, with the possibility of reaching a whole new demographic. I took inspiration for this design from punk-style collage posters, which are often seen in nightclubs and other similar venues. All of these posters share the same concept: torn paper textures, bold typography, and monochrome imagery, combined with a range of colours. All of these different concepts are something I thought would work really well with my brand and its identity. I designed the poster itself using Photoshop. All elements and images used in this were found on Unsplash.

My advert promotes a vinyl night, similar to what you would expect from actual club advertisements, with the information pieces on the side helping to convey a sense of professionalism and realism in the poster. I chose to design this concept in this style because it represents the social and community-based side of record shop culture and feels welcoming/ exciting, rather than simply promoting a shop or venue. To maintain consistency with my brand, throughout the design I used the same colour palette of orange, black, yellow and white, with these colours mainly being used for the typography colour or button colour. I’ve chosen what colours should be used where for the design, so that it helps to guide the viewer’s eyes around the entire design, whilst also familiarising them with the visual brand of needle and groove.
Overall, I believe that my final outcome is successful in combining my branding with clear communication and animation. The grunge poster design is visually pleasing and bold enough to make the users stop scrolling and spend time reading the poster, which is the whole aim of the design. The information is also presented in a way in which its still clear and readable for all viewers, even when scrolling on a small device, such as a mobile phone. If I were to take this product further and improve on it, I think I would include some sort of background noise, previously I mentioned vinyl crackling for one of my designs, but this could also work for this poster design, or to match with the aesthetic of this design I could’ve included some subtle crowd ambience.
