Requirements Gathering and Analysis

To understand the needs and requirements for the festival and its attendees through the use of the festival companion app, gathering data from possible users is essential for a first stage. Surveys and conversations provide an important insight into what the possible attendees will be expecting on the app and on the day of the event. My main task has been to identify the list of these requirements, which had been completed through the use of a short questionnaire allowing the user to share all their thoughts on the event moving forward, with also providing a small amount of information based on themselves. All my research into my users has been conducted through Instagram, Discord and reddit.

The key stakeholders regarding my event include festival organisers, the app development team, gaming studios and sponsors, and content creators, each with different responsibilities. Festival organisers will focus on event details, such as location, date and the possible event size, while the app development team will prioritise creating a companion app that provides important event information. The gaming studios and content creators will look to promote the event. Success for all parties will look different from each other. A well received event with high attendance for the organisers, a functional user-friendly app will be seen as success for the development team and increased engagement/exposure for the gaming sponsors and content creators.

The users need an easy to use app with clear directions. The process should be quick and simple, with no confusion about the options, benefitting those who wish to quickly navigate and purchase tickets. Success for the customers means a smooth experience for browsing and purchasing event tickets. Users expect the app to be fast and responsive, without glitches or delays. The customer requires a straightforward and simple way in which they can buy tickets without extra steps and confusion. By focusing on these needs, the app will improve user satisfaction and provide a positive experience for all users.

Some rival events include, “E3”, “TwitchCon”, “GamesCon” and “ComicCon”. But I wanted to branch out and do some research on Uk based events and review their own websites and companion apps to gain an understanding on what information they provide and how these event organisers have decided to layout their on app and website. I visited the website based on the London he’d gaming event, this website covers all the key areas such as dates, times location of certain activities and also provides a constant update news tab. With most of the layout on the website itself working well with the theme of the whole event, however the only issue I have had with this site is the pop ups which are frequent, yet are mostly unrelated to the event topic.
